Three Amazing Days, Four Powerful Tracks

An Event Unlike Any Other

“There has never been a conference quite like this one.“  And that’s according to our own Doug Gould, who has participated in dozens, if not hundreds, of CCM worship and tech events over the past twenty years.

Hosted by Shure, Yamaha and Martin Professional, this in-depth, hands-on and highly personal event will be held at one of the most beautiful Christian conference centers in the nation – The Maranatha Bible and Missionary Conference Center, a sprawling campus on the sparkling shores of Lake Michigan.

On hand will be Summit sponsor pro audio experts along with leading worship musicians and world-class sound professionals. In-depth three-day tracks will include Audio, Musician, Lighting and Media.

What Makes The Summit Unique

Theory and Practice

Most technical training conferences are one or two days long —sufficient for fundamental theory, but less so in applying the theory to real situations that happen back at home. There isn’t enough time for real world testing with an expert on hand to serve as a guide.

Really, Really Hands-On

What makes the Summit so different than other "”hands-on” sessions is that applications and principles will be demonstrated in real time, with real musicians in real rooms that aren't conducive to live sound, just like the ones in most real churches. And participants will have their hands on real gear.

Affordable

Fees for the full course of Summit sessions begin at just $149.00 for four days.  Meals and lodging are available on site at nominal charges and group discounts apply.  The sponsors of the Worship Arts Technology Summit are underwriting much of the costs so that as many church tech teams as possible can attend.

Sessions in Focus

Vocals for Musicians

All aspects of individual and team vocals will be addressed with hands-on opportunities to try out what we’re learning! We’ll be discussing the most common vocal issues that affect the worshipping vocalist. We’ll review basic techniques that are frequently overlooked by many amateur vocalists. Then we’ll go on to study some in-depth aspects of singing such as: developing better pitch control and intonation, issues that affect women, issues that affect men, vocal techniques to avoid, tackling tough passages, extending your range, choosing the right microphone, enunciation, breathing etc.

Additionally we'll cover mic technique for group singing, getting the best harmony and blend for your group, improvisational techniques, arranging your team, finding the best keys, how to work productively with your tech team and maximizing your rehearsals.

Arranging 101

One of the things that sets this conference apart from any of the things we’ve done in the past is the fact that it keeps a track of attending musicians together for a journey that goes well beyond classes specifically targeted at their individual instruments alone. We are of course offering these instrument specific classes, but we then build on this foundation, going into areas of musical arranging, team building and diverse musical styles that are often overlooked. The same world-class teachers that lead the instrumental master classes will come together and team-teach these praise band concepts providing an unprecedented level of ministry experience, heart and musical expertise.

In addition to the musical instrument training, we will be offering general classes on the basics of improvisation, music technology for Modern Worship and a series of courses on digital recording and how to best record your own praise team worship project. In all of these classes, the very make up of this conference will allow us to go deeper into each subject providing a much more comprehensive and ultimately more useful training experience to the attendees.

Lighting – Basic to Advanced

Here’s a brief overview of planned sessions in the Lighting Track.

System Set-up: Course dedicated to a complete understanding of DMX Protocol, proper cabling techniques and controller/fixture communication setup.
Automate Lighting 101: We will focus on understanding the purposes and usage of Automated Lighting Fixtures.  We will explore the different types of Automated Fixtures as well as explain how to choose the proper Automated Fixture for specific needs.
PC Based Lighting Control: Understanding PC Based Lighting Control utilizing Martin’s LightJockey software/control.  This class will walk through controller setup, programming and event operation.  Attendees are encouraged to bring their own Windows-based laptop to experience this class to the fullest.

You Choose - What You Always Wanted to Know About Lighting:  This is an open format to ask questions like: “I have this situation and don’t know what to do?” “Why do I have these issues when I do this?” and  “Why do I need a  DMX splitter instead of a basic (Y) cable?”
Lighting Design 101: Learn from a top lighting designer on basic fundamental system design. This class will provide an understanding of why or how to utilize lighting angles, lighting positions, gel selection, conventional vs. automated and much, much more.
General Lighting Maintenance: This is a hands-on lab class.  No tools required … but some assembly.
