Church Mission
River Hills Christian Church exists to help people live quality lives now and forever. According to Pastor Jeff Metzger, “We continue to grow as people in our community want to know that God loves them. This is an accepting place where they will be nurtured and loved by other people. We do this through over 30 ministries.”
Audio challenge
We are presently in our second portable church. Putting the team together and having enough time to set up and rehearse the band was a challenge the first time around.

The second time, it was a little different since we had been in a fixed setting for about three years and had raised the bar on sound and video quality. The goal has been to bring that high level to the portable situation.

The time factor enters into what we are trying to do as we have limited setup time and the band needs rehearsal time. The other problem is getting a consistent sound in the room where we are meeting. The room really has about three different areas of sound. We have to mix from a back corner of the room and there is one sound there, then at mid rear of room you hear nice mid ranges and some lows. However when you arrive at the front of the room, you hear a lot of highs in the mix

Solutions

We have computer modeled the room for EQ purposes and that has helped. We continue to move speakers around, too. The best solution has been to use two people to mix with one in the middle of the room directing the person at the board on what they are hearing. It requires the person at the board to have a lot of trust.

The other issue is the wear and tear on equipment and personnel. I believe that if we were doing this from start up again I would invest in or design a set of road boxes just for our situation. We’d use sub snakes to connect the stage together in a cleaner way with less damage to individual cords. It always seems that there are too many cords out and they tend to not handle the abuse of setup and tear down very well. All of our equipment shows signs of abnormal wear.
“We learned how to assemble everything in packages.”

Revelation
We learned how to assemble everything in packages. This makes the connections faster and gives the band and the worship leader more time in rehearsal.
River Hills has, along with its team members, Tom Rutledge of Worship Resources to thank for maintaining sound quality while the congregation breaks ground on a permanent building. Learn more about the church at www.riverhillscc.com
